>The youngest AEGEE contact – Leipzig

>

Today in the latest CD meeting we were proud to approve another new contact – Leipzig! Welcome back to the family the city, which was part of AEGEE Network already some years ago and now is re-starting again!
The new contact is founded by a mixture of students – both AEGEE members from different cities who have now moved to Leipzig as well as new students who have heard about AEGEE from their friends and want to see it also in their home town. “We are motivated and excited: AEGEE must return to Leipzig – 10 years of pause are more than enough! We are convinced you will enjoy our city as much as we do,” say the motivated people.
But what actually is Leipzig? As they write in their motivation letter, German city Leipzig is home to the oldest remaining trade fair in the world and has a thriving international atmosphere. Leipzig has about 1000 years of fascinating history and a varicoloured cultural scene. It’s also home to Thomanerchor, the Gewandhaus Orchestra and Germany’s largest student pub, the Moritzbastei. Not to mention also it’s famous inhabitants – such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Napoleon, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and others!
At the moment they have more than 38 thousands students from all over the world studying at ten institutions of higher education. AEGEE in Leipzig will be supported especially by the University of Leipzig, which was founded back in 1409. “Since the University of Leipzig has chosen “A Tradition of Crossing Borders” as its maxim, we wish AEGEE to become a strong and active European voice in this city,” writes Franz Haeuser, the rector of the University of Leipzig.
